Understanding Your Own Body Weight

Many of us might be guilty of shaving a few pounds off the our weight in conversation or on our driver’s license—because how much difference can five pounds make, really?

And—to an extent—it’s true. Five pounds isn’t the end of the world. But having no concept of your actual body weight is cause for some concern.

Research shows that significant portions of obese women and children underestimate their weight. It’s hard not to make it sound like a skinny-person contest—but the truth is that being overweight is dangerous to your health. It causes numerous complications such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
